The Chargrill uses a gas flame or an electric heating element to create radiant heat to cook food placed on the grill grate (parallel metal bars or ribs with spaces in between). These grates are what provide the attractive chargrill markings that customers love. This type of grill is open and does not have a lid. A popular type of chargrill is the lava rock model that uses lava rocks placed above the burners. Lava takes some time to heat up, but the rocks hold their heat for a long time.
