Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of Red Nose Day. We’d like to extend our best wishes to everyone participating across the UK. We know many of our customers, partners, and friends are getting involved, and we’re sending our support for all the fantastic fundraising efforts.

History

Red Nose Day has been a 40-year beacon of hope and laughter. Specifically, Lenny Henry and Richard Curtis founded it in 1988. Subsequently, it grew into a national institution, using comedy to drive positive change. Their core vision: raise funds for those facing hardship, in the UK and worldwide, with joy and humour. Additionally, RND, unites people to have fun, raise awareness, and fight poverty and injustice

The heart of this auspicious day lies in its ability to combine laughter and fundraising. From silly costumes and wacky challenges to star-studded comedy specials on television, the iconic red nose itself has become a symbol of the campaign, representing the power of humour to bring people together for a good cause.

The funds raised support a wide range of projects that tackle critical issues such as homelessness, mental health, and poverty. Comic Relief works with partner organisations to deliver essential services and empower communities to create lasting change.
