The storage capacity in all commercial refrigeration is measured in Litres or Cubic Feet, depending on the manufacturer.

Fridges have a net capacity and a gross capacity because these two terms refer to different aspects of the fridge’s storage space.

Net capacity: This is the actual usable space in the fridge. It doesn’t include the space taken up by the walls, shelves, and other structural features.

Gross capacity: This is the total volume of the fridge, including the space taken up by the walls, shelves, and other structural features.

The gross capacity is always higher than the net capacity because it includes space that can’t be used to store food. For example, the space between the shelves and the walls of the fridge can’t be used to store food, so it’s not part of the net capacity. Net capacity is the more important measurement when you’re trying to decide how much food your fridge can hold.
