You dough-nut want to miss this!
National Doughnut week runs from this Saturday 20th May – 28 May 2023.
This is the week that bakeries, coffee shops, cafes, delis, bistros, restaurants, pubs etc. are taking part in making and selling oodles of delicious doughnuts. All funds raised goes directly to The Children’s Trust – the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injuries. This amazing charity delivers rehabilitation, education and community services through skilled teams who work with children and young people & their families. Every year 40,000 children in the UK are left with a brain injury because of an accident or illness. They may no longer be able to walk, talk, stand, sit, or feed themselves. The Trust aims to help rebuild as many of their skills as possible.
So, it’s time to get creative with toppings and flavour combinations! The UK has always had a love affair with these ring-shaped pieces of sweet fried dough. Whilst some may opt for the ringed variety, Brits generally prefer the classic filled doughnut. Overall, jam reigns supreme with a total of six in ten people asked preferring raspberry or strawberry jam as their preferred filling.
Other winning flavours include sugared, chocolate filled, hot sugared with cinnamon, salted caramel, original glazed, toffee, nut sprinkles, blueberry, crème brulee, chocolate frosted, chocolate cream, white chocolate – the mouthwatering options are endless!
So, let’s get ready to raise some dough for this thoroughly worthy cause.
